I don't know why, but I'm always amuzed when people tell women to "take it like a man". I agree that some women should learn to not take some things so personally.
I think the problem is that most women don't take the time to think before they react. They feel an emotion and go with it. However if they were to rationalize a more effective response they'd end up with your suggestion, but by that time they have already talked to their girlfriends and had their emotions and actions validated and seeing anything further is beyond their goal.
