Well, that's what I heard when... well, let me set it up. I was reading this terrific rant over at
Rachel Lucas'.I just love when life takes you out of the tech support manual. Having someone say something is "impossible" while it's happening to you is infuriating.
I'm sure everyone has this happen to them occasionally. But I just wanted to share my favorite time it happened to me.
I was buying something for my '84 Ford Mustang. I forget what exactly. I think it was some sort of engine sensor.
But I went in to the dealer and told them I needed the part.
Him: "What year?"
Me: "84"
Him: "What engine size?"
Me: "GT 2.3 liter turbo"
Him: ".................. they didn't make that."
Me: "Ummmm... yeah they did. GT. EFI. 2.3L turbo. 5 speed. It's sitting right outside."
Him: "No, they didn't make one."
Me: ...... (silently contemplating murder)
Now, I am not a big car guy. I cannot recite specs on every big block ever made, but after spending a LOT of time getting my car repaired by me and shops... I knew my car. Especially what the heck it WAS.
Strangely, no one that told me it didn't exist would ever come out the door to just LOOK at the engine and those letters carved into the top that said "MICHAEL IS RIGHT!" Their computer's database could not POSSIBLY be wrong or somewhat non-comprehensive.
No. I was an idiot.
BTW, it was a silver 'Stang hatchback with black highlights and a sunroof. Much like this one, except mine didn't have the pony logo on the sides like this one. (And that always annoyed me too.)
It was my first car and it's been gone for over a decade. But I still miss her, pain in the ass though it was. But, like all cars, she was female so she just had to be trouble, right?
