Actual USEFUL Stem Cell Research!

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/health/article5993187.ece

And on a semi-related note (okay, it's a stretch...) :

I have to admit that's a bright side of a recession/depression/whatever. The more chicks going into the stripping industry, the more competition for those jobs. Hopefully, that means WAY hotter strippers. And isn't that what we all want anyway?

Now We Get FRANKEN-BEER!

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,443798,00.html

What the fuck is wrong with people?

They really need to leave all of our foods alone. Especially beer. (Why "especially beer"? Eh. No real reason, just cuz I say so.)

Heck, if I knew which beers were only beer-conditioned instead of pasteurized or cold-filtered, I’d only buy those. (I love the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.)

How long did we hear how much healthier margarine was than real butter?

How many drugs recalled after being hailed as “live savers”?

How many wild game animals have near-zero cholesterol compared to the hormone-and-antibiotics-injected caged beasts grown by Tyson and its ilk?

These guys ain’t nearly as smart as they like to make us think. And God put some amazing stuff on our planet already. All-natural, un-tampered-with real food.

I don’t care that I have to pay another 50% for real food as opposed to mass-produced tasteless crap. It’s usually more filling anyway so you don’t have to eat nearly as much.

Fun With Evolutionary Thought

http://www.lewrockwell.com/sardi/sardi75.html

I don't think I'd be nearly as skeptical about evolution if:

1) its adherents weren't so freaking dogmatic, psychotically defensive and ready to kill anyone that questions its problems and

2) if medical school and high school biology textbooks didn't use "proofs" long since proven to be fraudulent. (Embryology and moths)

Fun column though.

Has to be smoke and mirrors though, right? I mean "It's science!"

In Case You Wondered What Mathmaticians Do...

They provide us with brilliant insights such as "Jessica Alba has the perfect wiggle".

Read the rest HERE.

NOT that I'm arguing their conclusion, mind you.

Just that I cannot believe anyone even would bother to try and quantify "boody-lishousness".

But who am I to argue?

After all: "It's science."

EDIT: Moving up cuz... I like it.

I might need to know this, since I intend to live forever.

We Are ALL So F'ing Dead...

Tip o' the hat to OC HERE.

Terminator-style flying-HK killbots join US, UK forces

"The US Air Force describes it as an "unmanned hunter/killer weapon system". This term might perhaps have been coined by a fan of the classic Terminator movies, in which dystopian future battlegrounds are overflown by murderous Flying-HK death-droids intent on wiping out the last vestiges of human resistance to the machine overlords.

The real-world flying HK is at least as deadly as the ones in the movies, able to lift a hefty 3,750 pounds of munitions. This can equate to 14 laser-guided Hellfire missiles, a smaller number of Paveway smartbombs, or GBU-38 Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs) with their own satnav/inertial guidance."

and

"In a chilling but wholly predictable move, there are moves afoot to dispense with human control altogether. The US Army's forthcoming "Warrior" drone - another Predator variant - won't need a trained pilot at all, as it will be able to land and take off autonomously. "Manual control will be possible," according to the manufacturer (General Atomics of San Diego), but this is scarcely reassuring."

Also: "New UK military communications satellite Skynet 5A goes live"

This BEE Not Cool.

Are mobile phones wiping out our bees?

"It seems like the plot of a particularly far-fetched horror film. But some scientists suggest that our love of the mobile phone could cause massive food shortages, as the world's harvests fail.

They are putting forward the theory that radiation given off by mobile phones and other hi-tech gadgets is a possible answer to one of the more bizarre mysteries ever to happen in the natural world - the abrupt disappearance of the bees that pollinate crops. Late last week, some bee-keepers claimed that the phenomenon - which started in the US, then spread to continental Europe - was beginning to hit Britain as well.

The theory is that radiation from mobile phones interferes with bees' navigation systems, preventing the famously homeloving species from finding their way back to their hives. Improbable as it may seem, there is now evidence to back this up."

and

"Now a limited study at Landau University has found that bees refuse to return to their hives when mobile phones are placed nearby. Dr Jochen Kuhn, who carried it out, said this could provide a "hint" to a possible cause.

Dr George Carlo, who headed a massive study by the US government and mobile phone industry of hazards from mobiles in the Nineties, said: "I am convinced the possibility is real."

I like bees. They're neat to watch and I love honey.

I even pet them for fun, though almost no one believes me when I say this until I do it in front of them. (Bumblebees only, thanks. Honey Bees are too tempermental.) I think I may just have to record myself doing it and put it on YouTube.

Anyway, I hope this isn't true and there's a quick and easy fix to bring back the bee populations. (Yeah, right!)

Look Out, I'm Sinking In The QuickMud!!!

Hope THIS might help save someone's life someday.

"The worst thing to do is to thrash around in the sand and move your arms and legs through the mixture. You will only succeed in forcing yourself farther down into the liquid sandpit. The best thing to do is to make slow movements and bring yourself to the surface, then just lie back. You'll float to a safe level."

Fun little article. Go read it!

(See, I can put up something other than intentionally offensive non-PC-BS!)
