Re: Last Post

Sorry to sound maudlin, I just like the thoughtful nature of "blogging" vs. "live blogging". True, I have posted more than my fair share of goofy crap here. But I do try to offer a spot to discuss things at a leisurely pace.

And it has been brought to my attention that some folks DO still visit here so I shall try to make the visits more rewarding by posting at least more goofy crap.

Now That's Much Better...

I've never bothered to learn anything about HTML until about five minutes ago. And Blogger's directions suck. But I think this is much nicer on the eyes. I've always hated all that wasted space.

Although I might revert back to the classic layout with the adjusted margins.

BTW: feel free to offer layout suggestions if you're so moved.

I Love The Internets.

I just found this picture here:

... priceless!

I love how the flag is gray too. I hope that wasn't an oversight on the creator's part.

"MANIC MIKE'S BLOG"???

For I while I've been wondering if I should take offense at John Peddie's referring to me as "Snake & Arrows"...

Then I notice Wonder Woman put up my link as "MANIC MIKE'S BLOG".

I guess I should be happy I'm linked to at all...

EDIT: And now... "Self proclaimed retard"?????

Ow.

Plus! I challenge her to show when I ever called myself a retard!

My retort is less stinging than I'd like. Might have to revise it later.

Shane Mewls Like A Cheap Whore:

"Where did my comment go?

I thought you NEVER deleted comments! Fucking hypocrite."

I've never denied deleting comments. I've deleted you before. And I'll do it again if I feel like it.

Get over it.

My blog ain't no fucking democracy. It's a total dictatorship and you're a little peasant.

I don't delete comments simply because they contain contrary opinions. That was the policy I objected to on other boards / blogs. Like Dyke Central (AKA Pandagon).

And if I delete the post, I'm deleting the comments directly related that would reveal exactly what that deleted post contained. Otherwise, it would be pointless to delete the post.

DUH.

EDIT: Wow. I just read Shane's comments on some threads below.

"No, YOU LIE. And make up STUPID Conspiracy Theories.

Get the FUCK out of our country!"

This is the rational response of the Angry American. Pretty isn't it?

Never mind that a rational person would have to admit that I have some valid points. Never mind that early reports on 9/11 mentioned us shooting down the 4th plane. Never mind that pieces of the plane were found miles away from the crash site (which would mean that something broke off pieces of that plane BEFORE it hit the ground, like an intercepting missle).

Never mind that something like 50 eyewitnesses contradict the official account of TWA 800.

Nope. I'm just a stupid conspiracy theorist. Yup. Stick that head in the sand a little deeper, Shane.

Then in the other thread, he skips over making any sense and just goes for the emotional jugular in a very womanly hissy fit that doesn't deserve one bit of rational response.

And you wonder why I think the "internet talk show" idea is stupid?

Blegging: Caramel Recipe

I know I read on someone's blog about making homemade caramel or caramel sauce. The recipe quite literally made me drool. It sounded amazing.

So if you had one on your blog or you know who did, please leave a clue for me here.

Thanks,
Mikey

EDIT: I'm going to keep moving this up until someone spills. I know someone out there knows what I'm talking about. I just can't remember who it is, dammit.

HELP! Am I Retarded?

I just want Mozilla Firefox to prompt me to remember my password for this site. Why can't I make it do that? I have three different userid's for blogger in my drop-down menu. Only the last one is right. I cleared my cache... what next?

Reinstall? I doubt that will work since every time I upgrade FF it remembers my passwords.

I'm at a loss.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Online Dating

"This rating was determined based on the presence of the following words:

* porn (7x)
* gun (5x)
* ass (3x)
* bastard (2x)
* asswipe (1x)"

What makes this even dumber is that it only reads off the page that loads. So this is only going back a few weeks... very silly.

EDIT: The porn references were to MOTORCYCLE PORN! And the song "Porn" by the band Solid. So if I post pictures of boobs, this rater can't tell. But if I use the WORD porn... too silly.

This Is OFFICIALLY A Whine-Free Blog!

Well... from this point on. Never again! I'm sick of writing it, you're likely sick of reading it.

If I whine at all, the first person to comment in that thread will get $10 via Paypal!

There. That should fix everything. Except for the lack of commenting on y'all's parts, but Rome weren't built in a day.

Happy Birthday To BLOG!

Well I've been late with everyone's birthdays this year so far, so missing my own blog's birthday is right in character for me.

It was a few days back on June 12th. Where does the time go?

BTW: Thanks for the crazy person that posted my very first blog comment ever. It was appreciated muchly.

I'm A Two-Fer!

Okay, I recently changed my blogger name to Michael Maier (my real name) from indyguy77 (NOT my real name).

No real reason, just to keep things straight between my blogger account and haloscan posting.

So my old posts are indyguy77 and my new ones will be michael maier.

Just so you know.

Hmmm.... New Problem....

...just popped up on this here blog. One I've not had to deal with before.

Anonymous poster, maybe cookies not working on someone's PC, maybe someone being an ass.

I'd like to be able to tell the difference in the future.

So if you use Site Meter or some other similar service, let me know and tell me what you like about it. I really don't care about measuring traffic, just being able to see the IPs of posters since I know a few folks just do what I do on the road, post anon comments with the usual name in the text instead of where it should be. And that's fine with me, I just want to be able to verify in the future and keep possible jerks honest.

Thanks for any input.

The Nature Of Blogging

Every once in a while, I write a post that even I think may be a little too out there for my meager blogging audience.

Part of me thinks: Hell, just post it. Who cares?

The other part of me thinks: Man, you need help! Who writes this stuff?

I'm just glad that the filter in my brain works from time to time and I don't post everything I think of posting.

A Decent Way To Run A Blog

Here's a quote from Vox that I really like:

"Silly me for thinking you may not be aware of this aspect of the discussion.

Actually, I quite appreciate the way you guys hang out here and do your part in keeping me sharp. I want the atheists and agnostics here to slash and burn whenever they see an opening, as my sensei used to tell me, if you see the shot, take it!

Of course, I THOUGHT I had the shot a lot more often than I actually did. Sneaky bastard enjoyed laying traps for the insufficiently wary.

I don't care if anyone agrees with me, I just want everyone here to be intellectually honest. If you get shot down from time to time, so what? Get back up and look sharper next time." --- VD

Vox allows anyone to make comments, other than those that have been banned. And in the at least four years of reading his blog I've seen less than a dozen. Probably less than half a dozen. Considering he writes for www.wnd.com and attracts the attention of such national radio homos as Michael Medved, he likely gets a lot of lurkers on his blog.

Vox doesn't cowardly delete comments because they don't agree with his viewpoints. He challenges them to logically back up their smack-talking. If the refuse to answer direct questions, he bans them. But that's fair. Why should he endure idiots that just spout liberal douche talking points?

I admire his ability to remain humble and say "I don't know, let me look into that". I also like how he relentlessly slaps down non-PC-BS. He writes columns that are fun to read and beyond my ability to refute.

I just really hate blogs that talk smack, can't back up their trash-talking, LOOK STUPID and then delete your comments because they know they cannot even begin to address the logic behind them.

http://feministe.us/blog//
and
http://www.pandagon.net/

are two perfect examples. I picked them because they're semi-famous in blogdom and they're both hysterical, stupid and bitchy femherroids (that's feminist to those that don't know). You can post comments. But if those comments don't walk the line, they're NEVER approved. The c**** that run the joint are intellectual featherweights. They can link to the Gutmacher (sp?) Institute and that's about the limit of their intelligence.

I always picture these femherroids as this chick that I met once. Short and fat, she refused my brother's offer to walk her to her car in a parking garage at 2am since "She can handle herself". Yeah... right. I doubt any attackers would sit still long enough for you to sit on them, honey. Maybe she figured any rapists would look at her and say "Man, even I have standards..."

The NEW Adventures Of Drunken Blogger!

Should one blog whilst drunk? If one asks Nate, the Hot Poker Gargler, the answer is a resounding YES! Of course, how one says YES with a hot poker down his throat is beyond me.

Methinks me shouldeth not bloggeth whilst drunken on Sailor Jerry's Spiced Rum (highly recommended, BTW!!) and Caffeine Free Coca-Cola. But here I am. Blogging whislt, er... whilst drunk. I think I poured too much rum into my glow in the dark Hardees cup. (I also really need to wash dishes.)

Wait! I need to watch the rest of tonight's Scrubs episodes. I'll be back later.

G'Night!

What are the laws or rules for citing web articles?

I'm wondering this: I always link to my sources when I cite something. (If I don't let me know!)

But I know most news sources don't have free public archived stories for very long. So if I link to something, that link is likely to be dead inside of a month.

But I don't want anyone scanning my blog and not knowing about what I was talking. So how much can I copy and paste on my blog before I run afoul of any laws? I don't really think anyone will sue me or anything, I'm just curious.

If I copy an entire news article verbatim, cite the source and provide a link am I breaking the law?

Haloscan sucks.

Why does it change my fonts? I'm looking at some of my posts and the damn fonts change in the middle of the post. To make things even worse, they look the same when I check the HTML code! It reads in the HTML code "Arial" and "100%"!! What else do I need to check here?
