Secured My "Major" Ranking Tonight

I Love My Ninja...

I came home Fall Creek Parkway from Shane's tonight. I got it over 80MPH indicated, so I was doing 75 or so. I love that road. The trees come over the top like a canopy so it feels enclosed at certain parts. It wasn't dark yet... good thing because the deer and other critters love that road. I won't do much over 50 there at night. I've wiped out a few critters myself in my Mustang GT. One raccoon was on the side of the road and there was a car coming in the other lane. No choice... and I saw him look up just before I heard the "Thuwump!". Almost cartoonish-looking when it happened.

But that road has some nice curves, not challenging but fun. And the almost-tunnel feel of that road is too cool. Just a fun trip home, riding too fast.

Thanks for the grub, Shane. You rock. I owe you a six-pack or something.

I did notice (And WHY did it take me OVER a decade to realize???) that I'm more hesitant leaning into left-hand turns at high speeds. I would guess it's because it's my blind side. Very odd and disconcerting. And something I would work on if I knew how.

EDIT: Just thought that's maybe why I freaked back here on THIS entry?:

Funny aside: My nephew asked my mom once: "How does Uncle Mike see out of his blind eye on the motorycle?" I found it funny that he asked her instead of me. Man, I really miss my buddy Drew. I can't wait to go visit my brothers out east again.

Now THAT Was Interesting...

Cool live tunes with two bands at a new (to me) outdoor venue and a very nice night outside.

The bands were Rebuilt (they rock! and there's their MySpace link) and Someday (they rock too!). I sorta know Rebuilt (they're friends of Jason's and some other friends). Someday sounded great too. Their bassist had a KILLER tone going. He pulled some very cool lines out with his pick. Their last song, he let some open strings ring, getting some very cool chordal stuff going. It sounded like a Tony Levin line or something. Very different and VERY cool.

They also played an awesome cover of Led Zep's "What Is And Should Never Be".

One complaint, the PA had WAY TOO MUCH of the cymbals. They were TOO LOUD! And I'm a drummer!

Thanks for inviting me out, Phil! You and Rebuilt both rawk! Thanks to Annette for the cool talk too. And thanks to Chris just for being him and RAWKING too!

PLUS! In addition to the tunes, I got lots of humour, a damn good burger, swapped spit with some hot blonde (amazing what happens when you leave your gentlemanly instincts at home) and, and, AND!

...the beer I left in the freezer didn't even explode in the hours that I was gone. Only because it was neck down in frozen water BUT STILL!!!

Even the dumbasses that messed with my bike (see last post) didn't foul my mood (okay, they did, but not too much).

I guess maybe my luck is turning around a bit.

Built into this American made Strat are Four different guitar models, and a tuning-adjusting knob that lets you change pitch on the guitar w/out retuning. Drop-D for Van Halen tunes, 12-string emulation and more.

Plus a Roland GK pickup too. For all manners of synth stuffis.

The only drawback? Only two colors. I'd much rather have the "Wayne's World" Off White w/ white pickguard (or a sweet candy apple red w/ white pickguard).

Now THIS review has more truth than any other movie review I've EVER seen.

Shane is WRONG. AGAIN!!!!

First he lied about this post. He said last night that the chick lit up on fire. Not just the nozzle of the pump. So there's THAT.

But the REAL reason he's wrong: His review of the movie "Shooter" starring Nate's favorite actor/"musical" performer: MARKY-MARK of the FUNKY BUNCH!! Now, I think Marky Mark is a mediocre actor at best. He sure as hell did not deserve a shot at Best Supporting Actor this year for the great movie "The Departed" even though his character in that movie ROCKED WITH THE GREAT TASTE OF CHEDDAR!! (Orange text in tribute to the cheese reference). (Did Marky Mark even win that Oscar? I don't even know.) But Marky Mark is not annoying or whiny in this film like he is in almost every other film. His seems very simply determined/focused throughout.

And he delivers the best line I've heard in a long time. I won't post the whole thing, but it's "You don't understand, they....". Great line. Very humanizing of his somewhat robotic (not the word I want but it will serve) portrayal.

Anyway... Back to why Shane's wrong. He says "Shooter" is slow. It's not. It's well paced and - Thank God! - not even mostly Hollywood-ized (like the forthcoming "Live Free or Die Hard" AKA Die Hard Part 4).

Shane also says that the story is weak. I disagree. The slower parts show the BETTER part of the movie. Which is the inherent corruption of our system of government. Seeing the few honest characters realize (with convincing fear) that there is a much bigger, hidden picture run by shadow figures SHOULD be the focus of the audience. The other parts like the fight scenes are very cool, but they're just window dressing, IMO.

The "bigger bosses" in the film are convincing, if only because of their arrogance. Work for the government for a few years or just pay attention to bastards like the Clintons. You HAVE to realize these fuckers are convinced that they are simply untouchable.

I will agree that Danny Glover's performance is rather weak. But Danny Glover SUCKS as an actor anyway! He's NEVER been a good actor and he's NEVER had a good performance on film. EVER. I defy anyone to demonstrate otherwise.

And Shane: DG's just there in the Lethal Weapon films. And the last three are shitty liberal douche propaganda regardless, other than the nude scene in part 2 with that Rikka chick. And Jet Li is cool in Part 4. But the whole of the film sucks donkey balls.

Back to "Shooter": I will also say that I only had a problem with unrealistic shooting in the film in one part. I won't say here what it was except to say that the "200 yard shots" (and that measurement is specifically mentioned in the film) were not realistic in my estimation. For reasons that SHOULD be obvious to anyone with a brain. But that's Hollywood for ya. And I could be wrong, but I really, really doubt it.

Oh, and I doubt those small canisters would have THOSE results. But I could be wrong about that too. I'm no chemist.

I also left this film wanting to burn down DC. So that's a good thing too (obviously!!).

Overall, a very good movie. I am tempted to say "Great" movie. Just because I am such a cynical bastard about our shitty country. But I will very likely buy this on DVD ASAP. And that's pretty much as high a compliment I pay to any film.

ASIDE: I also don't see why Shane hates the directing in "Training Day". I don't really like that movie much, but the directing? It seems a little disjointed maybe, but that fits with the entire storyline just fine for my tastes. And Denzel was an asshole in that movie, but hardly "horrible". More reasons that Shane is wrong...

I bought this since I read some review raving about it. I didn't even really read the review in depth, just popped onto Ebay and found it for something like $10. So I bought it. And it's been sitting in my living room for months, unplayed.

Until this weekend.

I love this game. You play Razz, short for "Rasputin". A young teenaged-psychic-hero-wanna-be. You start the game by popping uninvited into a summer camp for secret psychic operative trainees. And you learn your craft, getting new powers, becoming more skilled, etc.

It has a wonderfully twisted sense of humor about it as you travel around the camp and on into the minds of various others. I have a good time doing it too.

Go buy a used copy. NOW!! I don't think it will disappoint.

It's also kid-safe (at least what I've played so far) although parts might be too hard for younger ones.
